Landmark Oregon winery transforming cellar into showcase tasting room

Come this summer, visitors sipping on some of Oregon's most renowned sparkling wine will do so in a new wine hospitality center and tasting room at Argyle Winery in Dundee.

SERA Architects has designed a master plan for the winery's re-imagined tasting room, which is being transformed out of existing cellars and a barrel room. The new tasting room will provide contemporary settings for visitors to taste Argyle's wines. It will also include a library displaying a portion of the winery's past vintages dating back to its initial 1987 release.

The new tasting room is an extension of the existing tasting room and former winery. With the addition of outside, covered and indoor seating, the new tasting room will accommodate 75 people. There will also be flexible spaces for larger groups.

SERA's plan for the project, which is currently under construction, includes reclaimed wood from the old winery space for use as tables and other features.

A retail cellar will feature the largest selection of Argyle's rarest and most collectable wines. The spot will feature meeting and event spaces for Argyle wine club members in the original tasting room, a historic Victorian farmhouse that was once Dundee's town hall.

The master plan also calls for shifting the garden from an English style to one focused on native plantings.

Lease Crutcher Lewis is managing construction of the project, which is expected to wrap up by this summer. The winery is open during the work.
